What do IT and quality leaders ask about FirstScanIt?

The questions a technology or quality head at a large manufacturer asks before a pilot, answered plainly. Deeper security material is shared with customers under NDA.

Integration and the packaging line

Will FirstScanIt slow down our packaging line?

No. Codes are created before the print run, not during it. Your line prints from a prepared file like any other variable data, so line speed stays in your control.

Can it handle full production runs?

Yes. Large orders are generated as background jobs and you are notified when the batch is ready to print.

Can our ERP or batch system send product data directly?

Yes. A product sync API accepts product and batch records from your systems, and every synced product is signed exactly like one created in the dashboard.

Can FirstScanIt send events back into our systems?

Yes, through webhooks for new scans, suspected copies, alerts, new products, recalls and completed code batches. You can send a test event before going live.

Can we export our data?

Yes. Scan records and product records can be exported as spreadsheet files from your account at any time.

Can we print unit, case and pallet labels?

Yes. Ready-made label layouts cover unit packs, GTIN case labels and SSCC pallet labels.

Standards and compliance

Does FirstScanIt work with GS1 standards?

Yes. It resolves GS1 Digital Link addresses (GTIN, batch and serial) to the product check, records supply-chain events in the GS1 EPCIS 2.0 format, and produces GTIN and SSCC labels.

We already print a Schedule H2 QR code. Do we need a second code?

Often not. Because FirstScanIt works with GS1 Digital Link, one code can usually serve both purposes. We review your current artwork during the pilot.

Which product details can a code carry?

Product name, batch, serial, manufacturing and expiry dates, manufacturer and, for medicines, the manufacturing licence number. Buyers see these on the result page.

Can we link unit packs to cases and pallets?

Yes, on the Command plan. Units can be grouped into cases and cases into pallets, and split again later. Any unit can be traced to the container it shipped in.

Security and access

Who can create codes in our company’s name?

Only your verified company account, and only the users you give admin rights. Other colleagues can have view-only access.

How are our staff sign-ins protected?

With two-factor sign-in using an authenticator app or a passkey. Sensitive actions can require an extra passkey confirmation.

How is our signing key protected?

Your signing key is protected so that codes can be created only through your verified account. It is never displayed or shared. Details are covered in the security review for customers.

If we change our signing key, do packs already in the market stop verifying?

No. Packs already on shelves keep verifying after a key change, so there is no need to pull stock.

Is there an audit trail?

Yes. Sign-ins, API key changes and administrative changes are logged, and every code batch is recorded.

Day-to-day operations

Can a genuine product ever be shown as fake because of a network problem?

No. If a check cannot be completed, the buyer is asked to try again. A counterfeit result is shown only when the code itself fails.

How fast does a recall reach buyers?

At once. After you mark a batch recalled, the next scan of any pack from that batch shows a red recall warning.

Who gets alerted about suspected fakes?

The contacts you choose in your account, and your own systems through webhooks if you connect them.
